Active fire curtain barrier assembly comprising technologically advanced fire-resistant fabric barriers encased in a compact steel housing. Barriers remain invisibly retracted until activated by an alarm or detector signal, at which time they descend safely to their fire operational position.To be compliant, fire barriers must be protected from a short circuit and or total power failure, this is achieved with the patented Total Gravity Fail-Safe (TGFS) system. Fire barriers will control the spread of fire in a building.Applications include all building types, including domestic houses. The fire barrier is also supplied with features such as; variable speed, controlled descent, radiation reduction, smoke leakage, emergency egress and access controls.Operation:The barrier assemblies commence movement upon initiation or any initiation, power or system failure and move to the fire operational position with site specific adjustable and synchronized velocities within the range of 0.06–0.15 m/s using the unique VarioSpeed™ function. In the event of mains power failure, they remain retracted using their own dedicated battery back-up power supply for a pre-determined period (nominally 30 minutes). If signalled to descend during this period, they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner to their fire operational position. At the end of the pre-determined time delay they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner. This safety feature is essential to avoid dangerous guillotine/ free-fall deployment.Fabric:Fabric type is EFP™ 4/1000, a glass fibre, stainless steel wire reinforced, fabric coated with a micronized aluminium filled fire retardant polyurethane, nominal 690 g/m². Fabric in compliance with the requirements of Class 0 to meet the statutory guidance in Approved Document B (Volumes 1&2) 2006 Edition ‘Fire Safety’ to the England & Wales Building Regulations 2010.Bottom bar:Two sections of folded 2.0 mm (14 gauge) galvanized angles formed into a triangular shape to fit the curtain, provide stiffness and limit deflection. Bottom bars are designed of adequate size and weight to keep the curtain fully extended, taut and level when the unit is activated to the self-closing position while providing for minimal deflection caused by the buildings' air pressure currents.Mounting brackets:Manufactured from 2.0 mm (14 gauge) galvanized plates, brackets are provided to house and support end of the barrel assembly.Headbox:Entirely enclosed the curtain and barrel assembly. When power is interrupted to the release mechanism by an alarm condition, the fire curtain barrier shall automatically self-close. In the event of power failure, the time delay prevents the fire curtain barrier from closing for a predetermined programmable period of 30 minutes, unless there is an alarm condition at which point the fire curtain barrier immediately self-closes. Once the predetermined programmable period of 30 minutes has lapsed, the fire curtain barrier self-closes. Once power has been restored and the alarm condition has been cleared, the release mechanism automatically resets and the fire curtain barrier immediately becomes operable.Controls:Control units are custom made to be fully compatible with both existing alarm systems and the number of barrier units installed, whether single or multiple roller assemblies.
