Active smoke barrier comprising technologically advanced fire-resistant fabric barriers encased in a compact steel housing. Barriers remain invisibly retracted until activated by an alarm or detector signal, at which time they descend safely to their fire operational position. To be compliant, smoke barriers must be protected from a short circuit and or total power failure, this is achieved with the patented Total Gravity Fail-Safe (TGFS) system. Smoke barriers will control the spread of smoke in a building and protect the means of escape and create tenable conditions.Period of Fire Resistance:150 minutes (2 ½ hours) integrity at 600 °C (1112 °F).Classification:D600A, A2-s1, d0, Class “0”.Operation:Smoke barriers commence movement upon initiation or any initiation, power or system failure and move to the fire operational position with site specific adjustable and synchronized velocities within the range of 0.06–0.30 m/s or 0.06–0.15 m/s using the unique VarioSpeed™ function. In the event of mains power failure, they remain retracted using their own dedicated battery back-up power supply for a pre-determined period (nominally 30 minutes). If signalled to descend during this period, they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner to their fire operational position. At the end of the pre-determined time delay they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner. This safety feature is essential to avoid dangerous guillotine/ free-fall deployment.Curtain:Fabric type is EFP™ 2/A2, a glass fibre fabric coated with a micronized aluminium filled fire retardant polyurethane, nominal 465 g/m². Fabric in compliance with the requirements of Class 0 and classified as A2-s1,d0 to BS EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 as required in the statutory guidance in Approved Document B (Volumes 1&2) 2006 Edition ‘Fire Safety’ to the England & Wales Building Regulations 2010.Bottom bar:Two sections of folded 2.0 mm (14 gauge) galvanized angles formed into a triangular shape to fit the curtain, provide stiffness and limit deflection. Bottom bars are designed of adequate size and weight to keep the curtain fully extended, taut and level when the unit is activated to the self-closing position while providing for minimal deflection caused by the buildings' air pressure currents.Mounting brackets:Manufactured from 2.0 mm (14 gauge) galvanized plates, brackets are provided to house and support end of the barrel assembly.Headbox:Entirely enclosed the curtain and barrel assembly. Manufactured from 1.2 mm (18 gauge) galvanized steel formed to match brackets. Top and bottom shall be bent and reinforced for stiffness.Barrel assembly:Fabricated of structural quality ERW galvanized steel seamless roller tube of sufficient size and diameter to house operating motor drive, support curtain assembly and limit horizontal deflection of the smoke curtain barrier assembly.Motor drive unit:Inboard 24 V DC motor including gearbox assembly, electromechanical distance travel limit switches all linked to an internal 24 V DC electromagnetic brake which allows the smoke curtain barrier to remain operational even during the loss of power to the motor drive unit.Fail-safe release device:A fail-safe release device is built into the motor drive unit as an integral part of the release mechanism. When power is interrupted to the release mechanism by an alarm condition, the smoke curtain barrier shall automatically self-close.In the event of power failure, the time delay prevents the smoke curtain barrier from closing for a predetermined programmable period of 30 minutes, unless there is an alarm condition at which point the smoke curtain barrier immediately self-closes. Once the predetermined programmable period of 30 minutes has lapsed, the smoke curtain barrier self-closes.Once power has been restored and the alarm condition has been cleared, the release mechanism automatically resets and the smoke curtain barrier immediately becomes operable.Controls:Control units are custom made to be fully compatible with both existing alarm systems and the number of barrier units installed, whether single or multiple roller assemblies. Compliant to the Machinery Directive, EMC Directive, Low –Voltage Directive. CE Marked to BS EN 12101-10:2005 as required by the Construction Products Regulations (CPR).Standards:CE Marked to BS EN 12101-1:2005+A1:2006 as required by the Construction Products Regulations (CPR).Warranty:One year.Finish:All surfaces galvanized steel. Powder coated finish available upon request.Power supply:230 V AC 50 Hz dedicated supply via 12 A un-switched fused spur. Backup battery: Two 12 V 12A/h lead acid batteries.Alarm signal:Normally closed volt-free contacts, open on activation.Display:Power on, alarm active and alarm off.Power supply size (w x h x d):400 x 500 x 210 mm.Motor control unit size (w x h x d):300 x 200 x 80 mm.Size (maximum):Available in unlimited widths and drops up to 10.5 m.Side channels:Side channels seal the smoke curtain fabric and the building. Fire can cause extreme positive or negative pressures (up to 25Pa). Side guide channels are constructed from galvanized steel (available in standard RAL colours) that can be either surface mounted or recessed into the wall structure to give a flush finish.Concealment:A range of ceiling interfaces are available and can even invisibly conceal the barriers in the ceiling whilst still allowing access for service and maintenance. All systems remain totally concealed when non-operational.Fixing:Fixing options to suit all types of ceiling configuration are available (can be integrated with both solid and suspended ceilings and will remain hidden within the ceiling until deployed).

Smoke barriers will control the spread of smoke in a building and protect the means of escape and create tenable conditions.

Period of Fire Resistance:

150 minutes (2 ½ hours) integrity at 600 °C (1112 °F).

Classification:

D600A, A2-s1, d0, Class “0”.

Operation:

Smoke barriers commence movement upon initiation or any initiation, power or system failure and move to the fire operational position with site specific adjustable and synchronized velocities within the range of 0.06–0.30 m/s or 0.06–0.15 m/s using the unique VarioSpeed™ function.

If signalled to descend during this period, they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner to their fire operational position. At the end of the pre-determined time delay they fail-safe by gravity in a controlled manner. This safety feature is essential to avoid dangerous guillotine/ free-fall deployment.

Curtain:

Fabric type is EFP™ 2/A2, a glass fibre fabric coated with a micronized aluminium filled fire retardant polyurethane, nominal 465 g/m². Fabric in compliance with the requirements of Class 0 and classified as A2-s1,d0 to BS EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 as required in the statutory guidance in Approved Document B (Volumes 1&2) 2006 Edition ‘Fire Safety’ to the England & Wales Building Regulations 2010.
